Staying Up Too Late?
I don't know why, but I really think that Red Eye with Greg Gutfield is pretty darn funny. Could it be because it is on at midnight (3 AM where they are) and they or I am slap happy? It can sometimes get crude, but the unpolitically correct or silly statements they make on that show are just golden. I guess it is my guilty pleasure. It will be a good thing when daylight savings changes and it is on at 1 AM because I definitely probably shouldn't be staying up that late.

First Day of School
I so did not want this summer to end. I had so much fun and wanted to continue living the life of leisure. Especially after visiting the Huntington Library earlier this summer. Anyway, I digress, the first day of school was a lot better than I was expecting. I am now teaching 8th grade as well and 9th and I gotta tell ya, I love 8th graders! They are so willing to participate and some of them actually like the subject and want to be there! I am looking forward to the new school year and all the new things I am going to learn. I just found out my grade for my second summer class in grad school and I got an A! So far my GPA is PeRfEcT!!!

Psych
My new favorite TV show just managed to incorporate a Remington Steele and Laura Holt reference. (Probably why it is one of my new favorite shows!) This show is the ultimate in '80s shout outs. Check it out.

I was tagged by my friend Maria. The rules were to go to your fourth folder and find your fourth picture. This is the pic...it is of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I think it is a picture of my mom, my niece Kaitlyn, and me?
I tag Sara, Aimee, Chrissy, Jill and anyone who wants to do it, just let me know that you have posted it on your blog!

The Story Behind the Flowers
Today I got flowers, but not for the desired reason. It all started yesterday. In one of my classes, a student has started having an attitude and pulling things to try to get into trouble but he actually isn't doing anything (for example, he will pretend he has his phone out, but he doesn't really). Yesterday, he mouthed the phrase "mother ..." I don't think he realized he mouthed the whole thing, but that is something I do not tolerate at all. So I told him he had a 30 minute detention. He denied he had finished the word, but I held firm. I wasn't really going to give him the detention, I just wanted him to sweat for a little bit.
Well, a couple minutes later, I look up from my paper and he is giving me the bird. I just told him he had an hour detention and got a referral sheet. I informed him that I hadn't been intending to even give him the first detention, but then he flipped me off. I wasn't mad at him, he had just made a poor choice. I take the referral to the office and leave on the assistant principal's desk.
The day goes on and I forget about the incident. During the last period of the day I check my messages and I have a message from the mother of this student apologizing profusely and ensuring he would be talked to at home. I get to class in the morning today and there are flowers in a vase and an apology note from the student. They gave me a chuckle all day. Sometimes I love my job.

In-n-Out Burger Addict
I must admit, I have become an In-n-Out addict. I eat it at least once, sometimes twice a week. I need to stop. I think it is quite possibly the most heavenly food on the planet. I love the melted cheese right off the grill. Usually I order a double-double with extra tomatoes (which doesn't cost a thing) and whole grilled onions (a whole slice of onion grilled). Delicious!! And I absolutely LOVE their fries. And have you ever called their customer service? A real live person answers the phone, none of that automated junk, a REAL, LIVE PERSON! And they are so friendly. What do you order?

Social Skills 101: Asking a Girl Out
I never cease to be amazed at the lack of social skills among some people. Today I would like to focus on some social etiquette when asking a girl out.
Rule #1: Do NOT call late in the afternoon/early evening to ask her out for that night unless you are her boyfriend. Put some thought into it and give her some time to plan!
Rule #2: When she tells you NO, which she probably will, do NOT ask her for her roommates' phone numbers or some other single girl's phone number.
Rule #3: If you don't know her, offer to take her on a double date. You could even let her find a girl to go to make her more comfortable.
Rule #4: Do NOT imply that you have been recommended by a friend of her's, when in fact her friend doesn't know you from Adam.
Rule #5: Ask her out, don't tell her you are calling to take her out tonight. (See Rule #1.)
These are just a few rules I discovered I had been taking for granted in the last 24 hours or so. I never thought they had to be written down, but apparently they do. Please feel free to leave any rules you have discovered need to be etched in stone. Also, please feel free to subtly pass these on to any single males you may know. One more rule for those of you trying to set up single people: Do NOT give a guy the number of a girl you do not know. If you do give a guy a girl's number, make sure it is okay with her first. At least give her some warning! It can be a scary dating scene for the single girl these days!

Homework
I have always known that doing your homework early was the best way to approach school work, but I never really lived by that adage. Even though I am a teacher, I didn't follow that advice at all this last semester. Well, I just finished my homework which is due on Tuesday, and today is Sunday. I feel better already! I can truly enjoy Disneyland and the drive home tomorrow and not stress about the homework that is due Tuesday. Please remind me of this when I procrastinate my homework in the future. (Note that I say when, not if.)

Happy New Year!
Looking back at this past year, I must admit it has been a good one. I had a wonderful Christmas and New Year with my family in St. George. I got to go to Disneyland with my parents, I know shocker. I got an A in my first Masters class, I was surprised when I saw the grde but I'll take it! I lucked out and have some amazing roommates. I have a "thenomenal" ward and calling in the Young Women's program. I have been blessed with great family and friends and good times. I look forward to the new year with anticipation to see what is ahead. I hope you all have had a great year and have an even better one in the year to come!
